Tūrangawaewae – My Place
Home is not a place; it’s a feeling
Sandcast Closed Porowhita Circle Necklace
Cast individually in sustainable New Zealand beach or river sand, this beautiful, organic circle necklace is made from recycled sterling silver or 9ct Alluvial Gold from New Zealand. Each necklace has it’s own unique texture reflecting the sand within which it is created. Your porowhita closed circle measures approximately 15mm in diameter and is approx 2mm in width. You also have the option of having a GPS location laser etched onto the reverse, or the word Aroha (other wording may be available) for a small additional fee.
The circle shape, or Porowhita in Te Reo Māori, represents the understanding that the Universe has no beginning and no ending, and symbolises the cycle of life and our eternal remembering and forgetting – a journey of endless discovery!
This necklace features a beautiful sandcast texture which has been designed to connect you to a place, offer you a sense of belonging and remind you of all those who have come before you. Inspired by the Māori concept of tūrangawaewae, often translated as ‘a place to stand’. Tūrangawaewae are places where we feel especially empowered and connected.
Select from our collection of New Zealand sand, or send in your own sand from YOUR special place (currently only available to New Zealand locations due to import restrictions).
Your necklace comes with a 45cm silver or gold chain
